Project Managers as Knowledge Workers: Competencies for Effective Project Management in Developing Countries

Studies have shown that project managers are responsible for the successful management of various projects. Increasingly, this success depends on manager being a knowledge worker (KW)—i.e., possessing and utilizing both “hard” “soft” skills/competencies to manage assigned Nonetheless, there has not been enough studies what these competencies are, especially in context developing countries (DCs). This study, therefore, seeks conceptualize as KWs by identifying key their relationships needed effectively projects DCs. To achieve objective, survey was conducted among 112 (PM) practitioners Ghana. The opinions from respondents were edited, summarized categorized creating word queries, thus, making it easier make deductions them. Finally, content analysis help establish links responses so deduce appropriate recommendations. findings provide set unique combinations effective PM primary contribution study stems highlighting need ensure DCs, helping more efficient use scarce resources.
